Amid Global Terror Wave, 10,000 Unvetted Syrian Refugees Settling In US
On the heels of savage Islamic terrorist attacks in Istanbul, Dhaka, Baghdad, and Nice, the Obama administration is accelerating its Muslim refugee absorption program, hoping to resettle at least 10,000 Syrian refugees by the end of the fiscal year.
In total, the United States promised to take in 85,000 refugees across the globe, with 10,000 specifically from Syria.According to the State Department, most of the adult men resettled by the government are members of family units. Here’s the breakdown of Syrian refugees accepted into the US thus far:
- 60% children
- 20% adult women
- 20% adult men
In an effort to appease the United Nations, the Obama administration has poured more resources into the refugee resettlement program in recent months. “The deployment of additional staff and resources in Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon and Iraq has enabled both the Departments of State and Homeland Security to review more applications and complete more security checks in recent months,” reports The Wall Street Journal. “For instance, between February and April, Homeland Security officers in Amman, Jordan, interviewed about 12,000 individuals referred by the U.N. High Commission for Refugees.”
The Journal adds that California, Michigan, and Illinois, states with already high Muslim populations, have received the bulk of refugees. Over the years, cities like Dearborn, Michigan, known as the Muslim capital of America, have been transformed into regressive Islamic communities mirroring mosque-laden urban centers in the Middle East. Niqab-clad women and Salafist preachers are now common fixtures in these Islamic hubs. With the influx of unassimilated Muslim refugees into the United States, these areas are only going to get more homogenous and secluded from everyday America.
Already in Europe, Islamic enclaves, the prime breeding grounds of terror, are scattered across countries like France and Belgium. Thanks to the Obama administration, the United States may be next.
It takes over two years to properly vet incoming refugees. “Typically, the vetting includes several interviews of family members, together and apart, background checks, fingerprinting and iris scans, among other things,” notes The Journal. However, the Obama administration is bypassing many of these procedures and accelerating the timeline to accept more refugees before the president leaves office
Rather than intensifying the vetting process for refugees, the Obama administration has opted to do the opposite: speed up the refugee absorption process by dismantling security screening procedures. Under the White House’s new “surge” operation, Obama plans to resettle at least another 10,000 refugees by September 30.
The possibility of ISIS penetrating the United States through the refugee process is not just fear-mongering; it’s a very real threat. In February, Director of National Intelligence James Clapper explicitly stated that he had strong reason to believe that ISIS was “taking advantage of the torrent of migrants to insert operatives into that flow. The group is “pretty skilled at phony passports so they can travel ostensibly as legitimate travelers,” he added.
